The Best Brands for Used Cars

US News ranks not only colleges, grad schools, hospitals, and mutual funds, but also cars. It compiled a list of the best brands for used cars. US News bases its findings on the consensus among U.S. automotive experts and safety and reliability data from third-party sources, with the preferences of staff playing no part.

Audi

Reviewers are fairly unanimous in considering the German engineering of luxury Audi cars to yield some of the best-handling autos and SUVs available. You can choose from the thrill of the R8, the all-round ability of the Q range, the practicality of the Avant, and the supreme luxury of the A6. As in all cases, you can discover more about used Audi A6s at carsales.com.au.

Mercedes Benz

Nothing quite compares to driving a Mercedes Benz. The design of cars of this brand is no less than stunning, in addition to which, these cars are practical. The A Class is robust and spacious and the S Class is sporty. What's more, buying second-hand is likely to be the only way you could afford one.

BMW

After Audi and Mercedes Benz, BMW completes the trinity of German executive automakers. Like Mercedes Benz, there's a considerable thrill merely from being behind the wheel of such a car. BMW is devoted to the driving experience, entailing that most of its autos are front-engined and rear-wheel-drive, giving the perfect weight distribution to minimize over- and understeer. BMW cars have become downright outré since the conservatism of the 70s and 80s. The BMW 1 Series, launched in 2004, is one of the most popular small hatchbacks in existence. And if you buy second-hand, someone else can take the hit for depreciation.

Mazda

Mazda is one of the largest carmakers in Japan, with an extensive history of producing exciting, consistently excellent cars. Mazda never ceases to innovate. The Mazda 2 is a stand-out supermini the provides both practicality and reliability and excitement. The Mazda 3 is equally fun, but more refined and spacious. The Mazda CX-5 is a a family-friendly, compact SUV that is the most practical of all this company's autos. While Mazda has no flagship car and hasn't cornered a particular market niche, its cars are all reliable, and affordable, and exciting to drive.

Toyota

Toyota autos are much-sought on account of their reliability, which is attested to by J.D.Power & Associates, for one. Demand for “pre-loved” Priuses is higher than for other models. If you want something which has not only power but a great deal of space for cargo and passengers, you may wish to consider the Toyota 4Runner or Tacoma.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen offers that good, old German engineering, but at a lower price than the other brands. The lower price is in evidence in the ratings for dependability received from J.D. Power, which are below the industry average. But Volkswagen made three of the best-selling cars of all time – the Golf, Beetle, and Passat – so they must be doing something right. Volkswagens are high-performing and efficient to run. The smaller Polo satisfies the need for a small city runaround and the Passat family saloon accomplishes the same for those desirous of a motorway cruiser.

Subaru

Subaru was once a giant of rally racing, but now caters to the private passenger market. The unique, sporty style and rugged functionality of these cars makes them stand out. The Impreza is no longer in production, but is possibly the most distinctive of Subaru's models. The XV is a crossover SUV with good off-road ability. The Forrester is in the same category, and trades ability for style. The medium-sized exec Legacy is more refined in addition to being practical and spacious.

Land Rover

Few other auto manufacturers combine refinement, luxury, and rugged ability as well as Land Rover. Although this brand is anathema to the environmentally-aware, these cars' off-road performance is unsurpassed. Landies are popular with the rich and famous, and once again, buying a used car could be the only way to share a buying preference with these people.

  2. Well every brand is important and has something special and different than others, like German cars are known for its engineering, Japanese cars are fuel efficient cars. There is no doubt that the brands that you shared are the best brands. Personally, if I have to pick one I would choose Audi.

  3. You gave a nice list of cars in here, thank you for that. Most of valuable cars despite of being second hand are from Germany, making them more attractive to prospective buyers. What else is to look for if you have a cheaper car with the same design and value as the brand new one in your hands, right?

  4. It is undoubtedly worth having your goal car but in cases where you don’t have sufficient cash, the used cars available would be your better option.
