Looking Through Our Future
For centuries, we have been fascinated by technology and how
it could change our future. We never expected that the rate of advancements we
have today is so significant that we can already foresee the evolution of our
current technology. 100 years from now, there will be radical changes in almost
all sectors of society. What we’re going to tackle on this post is the most
obvious ones that will likely to happen in our lifetime.
As far as technology is concern, the year 2012 is remembered
as the year of Wi-Fi technology and mobile gadgets. However, there were several
innovations that are not that popular among the masses but will definitely
affect our future. Here are some of the things we can expect in the next one
hundred years:
Farming will move to the oceans – the population of the
world now is around 8 billion and growing. We need to feed all these people and
nature can no longer provide the needed resources. In the next 100 years we will definitely see
farming communities that is heavily concentrated on the ocean. They will not
only farm for fish but also algae, because technology will allow algae to be a
source of renewable energy.
We will have the capability to control weather – calamities
that is brought by storms, hurricanes and tornadoes will be a thing of the
past. In the next 100 years, we will have a weather control device that can be
used to mediate the weather. It can also be used to create rain and increase
the chances of a better harvest. However, this type of technology can also be
used as a weapon – making it a double edge sword.
Medical
advancements will allow humans to live longer – we can expect that our
knowledge with the human body will go beyond the limits. Nanobots will now be
able to enter the body and heal broken tissues, remove cancer cells and
accelerate the healing process. This will allow us to live longer but to be
immortal will be another story.
Knowledge
can be directly transferred into our brain – the next 100 years will be a golden
age of knowledge, and we may no longer need schools to acquire those skills.
You choose an area of specialization and everything about it will be
transferred using advanced machineries. Anyone can now be intelligent but
someone will always be extraordinary.
A.I.
(Artificial Intelligence) can now act on their own free will – although this
scenario may seem a bit freaky, especially if machines can go against us and
declare their own independence. It is also likely that in the next 30 to 40
years, A.I. will be more autonomous when it comes to decision making. And
military units all over the world will present a new type of weapon – the
combat AI, where unmanned aircrafts and drones can react to any threat on their
vicinity.
Through
time, technology becomes more and more sophisticated but being high-tech has
its pitfalls. Once we reached the point where we become too dependent on
technology, then that’s the time we become less human and more of a machine.
it seems scary if we were to become completely dependent on technology, what if a power outage comes..... and also... FIRST!!!!!!!!
