Suzuki Swift - A Great Compact Mini Car

Suzuki Swift – More Than Just A Compact Mini Car

At first glance, Suzuki Swift looks like a modern day Mini Cooper, because their design is almost identical - especially at side view. Though, the Swift is not your usual compact mini car, it can hold its own on the road. It’s smart-looking, elegant and most of all it’s well-equipped for its price. Driving this car around the city is also affordable, due to its fuel efficiency and unlike any other compact car out there – Suzuki Swift is reliable and won’t rob you on maintenance costs.

When you first test drive a Suzuki Swift, you will notice the high quality interior and solid assembly of this car. The front seats are equipped with sports buckets and firm bolsters. On top of that, it also has a standard issue airbags (driver’s knee, on the front, side and curtain), vehicle stability control and ABS brakes for maximum protection.  However, the rear headroom is a bit tight considering it has an upright roof, but for people with medium-sized frame; 3 passengers can comfortably sit at the rear.

Now we go with the equipment and this is where the Swift really shines. Every stock version of this car has a proximity key, HID headlamps, push-button starter, cruise control, fog-lamps, Bluetooth, six-speaker audio systems with iPod and USB input integration, audio and phone connectivity, and a trip computer.

You can also integrate a unique body kit specially designed for the new 2012 Suzuki Swift, with flow-formed and rear spoilers along with a 17-inch alloy wheels. Though, the cost will surely increase from its based-price. I have to say, “It’s all worth the cost,” because your Swift will be much cooler and aesthetically stunning.

Another thing about the Swift is its cargo volume, which is only 210 litres but features a loading-lip. This is a two-stage floor that can be moved up and down to give more room as required. But it would be best to pack light if you’re going travel with your Swift; this car is not really meant to carry a large amount of cargo.

Driving the Suzuki Swift in an open highway is just awesome, with its engine that can smoothly rev to maximum. Actually, it has a 1.2 engine with a Peak power of 100kW that’s approximately 6900 rpm; a maximum torque of at least 160Nm that can deliver 4400 rpm. The engine, its wheels and the transmission all worked in harmony at high speeds – making this compact mini car a true speedster on the highway.

This car’s suspension is also top-notch with front springs and torsion-beam rear system using a spring that is 30 percent stiffer at the back to provide a noticeably firmer ride.  So, even if you’re loaded – you can’t feel any cabin intrusion when you pass through broken tarmac and rough roads.

Overall, I like the Suzuki Swift; it’s a car from a known Japanese manufacturer who specializes on compact cars.  It is priced at $19,000 (Php 779,000) and well beyond the budget of most auto consumers.  It is fuel efficient at 22 Km/liter on open highways and 15-18 Km/liter city driving.

  7. This car is based on Suzuki's world car platform and has been doing exceptionally well in international markets. Especially the Asian market is teeming with the Swift and its same platform based counterparts. It should be known that the diesel motor is a DDiS unit manufactured by Fiat, and has great fuel economy to boot. Deriving 51 mpg on crude fuel, this 1.3 liter power plant also belts out around 90 ps!
