iPad Mini - To Buy Or Not To Buy

The Things You Should Know About The iPad Mini

If you’re one of the gadget fanatics who like things that are portable and lightweight, then for sure you’re eyeing one of the small-tablets on your favorite gadget store. There are three contenders to this particular market – Amazon Kindle, Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad Mini. However, when it comes to popularity and branding, no other tablet is as popular as the Apple iPad series. It’s no surprise that they will take the opportunity to produce a smaller version of their iPad 2, just to satisfy the needs of their ever loyal followers.

When you pick up the iPad Mini, the most striking description you can give would definitely be light and small. That’s why Apple called it Mini in the first place; you’ll really appreciate its size and the best thing about it is that you can hold it comfortably using just one hand. The color scheme for the iPad Mini is the same as the iPhone 5 like black and slate or silver and white. All its buttons and ports are all standard from the typical iPad tablet.

Although, Retina display is the name of the game for most recent Apple mobile products, the mini can only muster a 1024x768 screen and this is the same resolution as your ordinary iPad 2. However, the iPad Mini’s screen has been shrunk to 7.9 inches – raising its pixel density to a respectable 163 ppi. But you need to understand that the Retina display of iPhone 5 is at 264ppi and this is a big difference that you can actually see – Retina quality is really a big jump when it comes to screen resolution.

iPad 2 Vs iPad Mini
On the upside, the new iPad Mini has a new form factor feature that makes typing on the mini a far enjoyable experience – making it ideal for dual-thumb typing. This particular feature is relatively impossible with larger iPads. It’s also the best reading tablet that can fit in any of your usual gadget case. The processing power of the Mini is also acceptable, as it runs on Dual-Core A5 Chip. This chip can also be found on iPad 2, so let’s just say that the iPad Mini is the skinny jeans version of the iPad 2.

In my own opinion, buying an iPad Mini is not a bad idea but you need to know your priorities first. If you’re planning to use your tablet for gaming and some heavy applications then you better go with iPad 3 or better yet iPhone 5. When you’re looking for a great reading tablet that can render some games and apps from the iPad 2, then you should buy the Mini.
