Mitsubishi Mirage - A Great City Car

Mirage - Making An Impression

Mitsubishi has a new player in the subcompact market, it is light but it sure has some big ambitions. We all know that there are several big names in the small car arena like Suzuki, Honda and Nissan, and all of them have produced cars that made it big in the auto industry. Suzuki swift alone is one of the most sought after subcompact car, because of its design and performance. However, the odds maybe against Mitsubishi but this have pushed them to resume the production of their new ace - the all new Mitsubishi Mirage.

This particular car has ceased production in 2003 but it made an impression in the market that it managed to build a loyal fan base. This year it made another comeback, and hopefully it will stay as one of the major production cars of Mitsubishi in South East Asia. Basically, it is powered by a 1.2-litre engine (3 cylinders) and it weighs around 870kg. It is built for city driving with less emission and very fuel efficient. Able to run a respectable 4.1L/100 km using an unleaded gasoline and this could be one of its primary selling points that every auto consumer is looking for.

We all know the prices of fuel is going up, and if you just want to get around the city with little to no hassles, then you better buy a small car that is both efficient and easy to park. The Mirage might just be the car for you, with its minimalist design – quite conservative in my own opinion. Mitsubishi features a new type of design which they call “Frill-Free,” and they are hoping that this will satisfy their target market.

However, its conservative styling might have some plus factor, because it is relatively aerodynamic – which only means fuel efficiency. It’s also has bigger interior, with spacious head and legroom that caters to all passengers. The price is not also that steep, starting at Php 498,000 ($ 12,450) for the basic setup. Their competitive price is due to the new plant they have in Thailand, where logistics and production costs is much lower than in mainland Japan.

Overall, it is a great city car to buy if you’re on budget but it can compete with other compact cars on the market.  In fact, you can save a lot on your gas, because it is very fuel efficient. But if you have the money to buy a more expensive subcompact car, then you better settle with Suzuki Swift.

  5. The Mitsubishi i was once considered a front-runner in the race for a mass-market EV. The cute car claims a max speed of 80 mph and a range of about 75 miles. But with the Mitsubishi i's small size and modest electric drive train, and limited production numbers.
