Why Playing Browser Games Is More Fun

If you’re a true gamer, then you probably played several games in various platforms. So far, the most inexpensive gaming platform on the Internet today are the ones we played on various sites and are commonly known as browser games. The good thing about browser games is the fact that you don’t need to install them, you can play them on the go – now that’s what I call accessible games. Although, the graphics might be a bit simple as compared to retail games on the PC but the fun factor is always there. You can even compete with other players online and that makes it a bit more interesting.

Actually, browser games have evolved into a massive multiplayer gaming platform where players are vying for the top position. Path of Exile - Bringing Back the Old Hack and Slash Formula

When you want an extraordinary game that won’t take much of your time, then you might be looking for a casual-friendly game that is both fast-paced and competitive. You want to feel satisfied even if you just played it for just a couple of hours. By the time you become an “adult,” and I mean someone who already has a big obligation in the family. Time becomes too precious that you want to spend every minute of your day on something that is worth your effort. We need to earn for our family and that’s not a cliché – it’s something that we really need to do every day.

Setting aside my melodramatic mood, I came across a great game that looks like Diablo 3 and feels like your basic dungeon crawler, but when I tried playing it - I was struck with memories of my good old Baldur’s Gate. A crosslink between a serious RPG and your mindless hack-and-slash game, it has good graphics that is within the level of Diablo 3. However, it’s still in its beta phase but you can already experience everything that this game can offer. All you need to do is sign-up for an account and you’re good to go. The game I’m referring to is Path of Exile – an online game with an overview perspective and puts you in command of 6 playable classes.

Best Free Online Games

With the festive season rapidly approaching, there is bound to be a glut of boring television, with endless re-runs of Bargain Hunt.  So why not put your time to good use and invest in some online games for your Laptop, Console, iPhone or iPad?  The best part is that they are all free, meaning you won’t even have to part with any of the hard-earned Christmas money that has been bestowed upon you by a myriad of relatives!
Below is a rundown of the best free online games of 2012; we have provided a broad range of online games across all genres, which ensures that your own gaming needs are met, and you no longer need to face another 30 minutes of David Dickinson’s colour saturation-defying tan.

CLASH OF CLANS (iPhone & iPad)

Clash of Clans is billed as an epic combat strategy game, and the main aim is to build your own village, and train your own army of Barbarians, War Wizards, Dragons, or other warriors and lead them into battle in pursuit of victory!
The game contains a potent mix of strategic planning and competitive fast-paced combat; you must choose whether you want to join a clan of other players, or to form your own clan and wage war on your rivals, in the hope of gaining ultimate ownership of the realm.  There is also the small matter of hordes of goblins to fight off on a regular basis.

XCOM - Rebooted

XCOM is a classic turn-based strategy game; it became popular during the 90’s and was the favorite game for strategy fans. It’s been one of those legendary games that have been dormant for decades, but rebooted for modern-day gaming consumption. The setting is still in a world ravaged by aliens and humanity is hanging by a thread – sounds familiar? Well, it’s an alien invasion game and you’re the commander of a group of elite soldiers from different countries formed under one organization called – XCOM Project. The purpose of this project is to fight the aliens and save mankind from extermination.

The company who got the go signal to reboot this great classic is Firaxis. If you’ve played the Civilization Series, then for sure you’re familiar with Firaxis and Sid Meiers. These guys are the masters of deep strategy games, and for sure they will carry that trademark to XCOM – Enemy Unknown. Although, there is a big difference when it comes to their previous games, since Civilization is an empire building game while XCOM is a combat-oriented strategy game. But the way Firaxis presented XCOM – Enemy Unknown to strategy game fans is quite extraordinary – they really know their craft.

Company Of Heroes 2 - The Russian Front Preview

The Bloody Eastern Front

The Russian Winter along with the endless supply of men and machine has brought the final demise of Nazi Germany. Every battle in the Russian front is so fierce that millions of soldiers on both sides have died during this bloody conflict. All the carnage and mayhem are accurately depicted in one of the best RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games of all time – COH 2 (Company of Heroes 2). The hype has never been so intense among strategy game fanatics as COH 2 is destined to debut on March, 2013. This sequel will cover the entire scope of the conflict – starting from Operation: Barbarossa up to the final assault on Berlin.

The campaign will exclusively cover the soviet side, but the focus of the game is on the lives of soldiers who fought and died on that conflict. According to Relic, the developer and publisher of the game, “We focus more on the soldiers during that time rather than the ideology or the politics of that era.” With the first impressions of the game, I noticed the sheer authenticity of the battlefield. As every weapon the Germans and Soviets used was accurately rendered along with their unique sounds. For instance, the Katyusha Multiple Rocket Launcher is so devastating and the screams of the rocket can really capture the horrors those German soldiers experienced during that time.

The Great Kinect Experience

The Best Way To Get Kinect-ed

If you think that video game consoles are all time sink devices with no possible benefits – then you better open your mind and discover the evolution of video gaming today. The need to interact within the game has pushed Microsoft to produce a motion sensing input device, which is commonly known as Kinect and exclusively created for the Xbox 360. Although, the Kinect has been around for quite some time now, it is still a great gadget for people who are seeking the best gaming experience. Actually, Kinect is just one of the motion sensing devices on the gaming market while other competing devices such as Wii Remote Plus and PlayStation Move vie for the top position.

Playing games using gestures and spoken commands is one of the best ways to enjoy a more interactive video game, rather than just using a gaming pad which is a bit mediocre and boring. Kinect sets the standard when they sold 8 million units in just a matter of 60 days. This feat gave them the Guinness World Record for being the fastest selling electronic device on the market. Xbox 360 also allows players to compete with other individuals through their network. So, you can compete with other Kinect players online – opening the doors into a more competitive gaming arena.

Guns Of Icarus Online Review

Guns of Icarus Online – A Steampunk Battle In The Sky

It’s no secret that everybody is fed up with the same type of games using the same mechanics that we usually see in most online games today. Most online gamers want something new, and they need a good diversion that can bring back their interest and passion into the genre. For sure, you always wanted a game where you and your friends can cooperatively fly a machine together and blast other ships from the sky. If there is a game like that, then it would be pretty amazing… isn’t it?

What if I tell you that there is already a game on the Internet that allows players to man a Zeppelin-esk ship in a post-apocalyptic steampunk universe. Each player can choose from three distinct roles – Gunner, Engineer and Captain. Sound interesting? Well, if I pique your curiosity then you better check out Guns of Icarus Online.  It’s one of a kind game from Muse Games which is also funded by Kickstarter Project.

Rift – The Storm Legion Update

Discovering Rift's Storm Legion Update

2011 was the year when Trion Worlds released a new MMO on the gaming landscape; it was known to be the best MMO to come out on that same year. That game was Rift, a theme park MMO like World of Warcraft and GuildWars 2. However, they added a new twist to an old and dying MMO recipe. They introduced the rift system, which have changed the repetitive nature of MMO gaming into a more cooperative style of online gaming. Rift is also a more defined and polished game that most players can quickly adapt with.

With the release of other blockbuster online games on the market, Trion quickly presented their full expansion of the game – The Storm Legion. This new expansion has brought in a number of new features as well as adding more elements that will captivate its players. To start with, they added new environments like the forests of Cape Jule, valley of death in Seratos and also the enigmatic place of Morban. These particular zones are stunning and expansive and they made a good effort in presenting it in a virtual world.  Trion also added more atmospheric effects, and if you’re using a high standard computers with a very sophisticated video card. Then you can really feel that the world is more alive than the original game.

Eve Online – A Great Sandbox Game

Eve Online - Space Opera

Space is the last frontier as they say it, and we’re beginning to master its mysteries through technological advancements. One day we might even put up a fully functional space colony. According to some scientists, if we can continue with our current pace, then we will see a whole new future within the next 150 years. My hunch is a colony on Mars, but it can be something else like Terraforming, wherein a whole planet can be altered according to our biological makeup. So, we can survive there like it is our own Earth.

Anyway, all these futuristic ideas came to me when I played an online game that really depicts the life of a star traveller. It’s a great game entitled Eve Online, wherein warp jumps and wormholes are an everyday experience. You can choose any path you like; you can be a merchant, miner, bounty hunter, pirate or even a CEO of a space corporation. It all depends on the skills you have, and the best part of it all – you don’t learn those skills through reading. Though you may need to buy several skills books, all the learning is done by injecting those skills directly to your brain.

City Of Heroes - A Final Goodbye

City Of Heroes - Shutting Down

When I woke up this morning, I received an unusual e-mail from an MMO game I played before. Though I haven’t visited that game since 2007, it’s quite disheartening to see that a good online game is shutting its doors to the public. City of Heroes is officially shutting down this day, December 2, 2012… COH is one of the major MMORPG that is based on a make-your-own-superhero mechanics. It’s the father of character customization which gave way to other online games to follow its footsteps. I also enjoyed this game for a year, discovering many powerful skills for my toons, and meeting a lot of superheroes in the process.

As like any other online games out there, it needs a community to follow it and a group of gamers to invest on it by paying their monthly subscription; this converts into revenues which help run their operations. Also, COH needs manpower and resources to exist; without these important components – it will really come to this point. It is clear that there’s a big shift in online gaming these days, as most MMORPG goes for Free-To-Play business model – with micro-transactions for their revenues. With these changes, most Pay-To-Play online gaming companies will have no choice but to convert their games to the FTP model, because it will be very hard to compete with other new free online games when they still stick with their old system.

World of Warcraft and Pandas

Revisiting World Of Warcraft

In 2004, Word of Warcraft is by far the most popular fantasy-based MMORPG on the Internet. It gathered 11 million avid followers, and generated millions of revenues that skyrocketed Blizzard status to be one of the premiere companies in the online gaming industry. Every avid online gamer and that includes me bought a copy of this game along with a 60 days subscription pass – a requirement to enjoy Azeroth and all its features. I played this game religiously for 3 years and I love how my human paladin progressed, and acquired some cool gears for Pvp. However, 6-7 hours a day of gaming really took its toll on my social life, and so I change my ways and dropped my subscription and find a more casual game.

So, in 2007 I quit Wow and everything about this game is just history. I’m not even interested in reading articles about Wow or glimpse the newest patch that Blizzard is going to implement on the game. After all I just need to move on and find a less competitive game or at least a more casual-friendly environment. For 6 years I have no Idea on the status of Wow or even the controversies it faced during my absence.

MechWarrior Online - BattleMech Warfare

Giant Robots and Total Mayhem

It’s time for big robots to comeback – and No… I’m not referring to Voltes V! These robots ain’t your usual Japanese Giant Mechs; they are the western version of the bi-pedal mechanized tanks. They’re slow but very sturdy and I mean tough like steel walls. I’m referring to MechWarrior Online, an online game based on a popular franchise which came out as an animated series before and transformed into several different platforms – including a number of PC game titles.

MechWarrior Online is a game that centers on giant mechanical robots that beats the hell out of each other, with colossal firepower that unleashes destruction in an immeasurable scale. You start out as a lowly mech pilot with a standard issue mech robot and some low quality armaments. From there, you battle your way to the top, earning kills and credits along the way and purchasing more powerful mechs and more destructive weapons – which you will use to gain more prestige and glory on the battlefield.

An Impartial GuildWars 2 Review

GuildWars 2 Review

GuildWars 2 has been around for almost 2 months now, I’m a casual gamer and I’ve visited Tyria ever since the beta phase. When I started playing GW2, I haven’t played any other MMORPG on my spare time. Maybe because I really enjoy this game, however, I won’t be bias with my review – these are my honest views and opinions about this game. I know a lot of online gamers, especially those who we call “Hard Core” would really want to try out this popular franchise. Some of you might have already tasted a piece of the cake when ArenaNet offered GW2 for free during the beta phase.

So, let’s go with the basics – what is GuildWars 2? For me, it’s an online role-playing game with new concepts and a fresh approach on an old theme-park style MMORPG, and we know that WoW (World of Warcraft) was famous because of that type of genre. Currently, the theme-park online RPG genre became the benchmark for other online RPG companies in creating their games. Basically, GW2 is a quest-based levelling game but with a twist – it’s the random events. Unlike other online games out there where you find your quest fixed in a particular location, in GW2 your quest is dynamic and scattered all over Tyria. This is a breath of fresh air for those who are tired of repetitive questing. Also, a dynamic event can set a series of chain reactions that can affect an entire zone in the game. This can give players plenty of things to do in the game.

Online Games - Diablo III

Diablo 3 in Hell Mode – Blizzard’s Efforts in Battling Scammers, Hackers and Gold Farmers in the Game

Diablo 3 is considered the newest ace of Blizzard Entertainment, and they are known to produce fun and quality games for any type of gamer. As we all know, its predecessor Diablo 2 has been a favorite game for both casual and hardcore gamers for years. The storyline for Diablo 2 is unique and encourages “replayability,” players go through the game 5 times or even 10 times in a row, in order to satisfy their hunger for unique gears and increasing character attributes.

When it comes to Diablo 3, anticipation is at all-time high; millions of gamers are expecting a more revolutionary, challenging, solid game. Actually, Diablo 3 has this characteristic but we forgot times are changing - even in the gaming world. We are more connected now than before, no wonder Blizzard made Diablo 3 like any other online dungeon crawler. As they said it before, it needs to be online to prevent gear and character manipulation.
