MechWarrior Online - BattleMech Warfare

Giant Robots and Total Mayhem

It’s time for big robots to comeback – and No… I’m not referring to Voltes V! These robots ain’t your usual Japanese Giant Mechs; they are the western version of the bi-pedal mechanized tanks. They’re slow but very sturdy and I mean tough like steel walls. I’m referring to MechWarrior Online, an online game based on a popular franchise which came out as an animated series before and transformed into several different platforms – including a number of PC game titles.

MechWarrior Online is a game that centers on giant mechanical robots that beats the hell out of each other, with colossal firepower that unleashes destruction in an immeasurable scale. You start out as a lowly mech pilot with a standard issue mech robot and some low quality armaments. From there, you battle your way to the top, earning kills and credits along the way and purchasing more powerful mechs and more destructive weapons – which you will use to gain more prestige and glory on the battlefield.

Piranha Games is the developer for this upcoming free-to-play MMO and uses a CryENGINE 3 engine, commonly used in top-rated games like Crysis Fame and Assassin’s Creed Series. The game is set in the year 3049, where a massive interstellar war broke out between various warring houses – and their main frontline weapons are the giant BattleMechs.

Once you play the game, you will notice that your view is on a futuristic and detailed cockpit, and you’re inside the body of this massive robot. The first-person view of MWO is what makes it special, because you will view the battlefield from the interior of your mech and that makes it more immersive. However, the most important aspect of the game is the vulnerability of your robot in a battle. You cannot just charge your enemies head on without strategy and team effort. A single alpha-strike from two BattleMechs can easily break your mech into pieces. So, maneuvering is essential in any of your battles as well as open communication with you teammates.

Currently, Piranha Games delayed the open beta phase of this awesome game. My guess would be the first week of November, so I’ll just give an update till then with the official download link for this game.
