The Flexible Mobile Devices
The future of mobile phones is more
flexible, and I mean that in a more literal way. Technology has made everything
possible and that includes the screen in most of our gadgets. Flexible LCDs is not just a concept idea nowadays;
it’s being implemented by most mobile device manufacturers. So, it wouldn’t be
a surprise if you see flexible screens among your favorite electronic devices next
year. Leading mobile manufacturers like Samsung, Sony and Nokia have finally
unveiled their commitment to introduce products that employs flexible display
technology in the first part of 2013.
However, the first batch of products
that may use this technology might not be very bendy. Like we have seen in the
past, new technology is susceptible to errors and defects. Several iterations
might be essential before we can really enjoy the features of a perfected
flexible display mobile device. Just imagine a tablet that can be bended in
ways that are not possible before – it would be so cool!
Though, there were speculations that
Apple is not interested in this particular breakthrough. Well, I guess they
just want to prove that they can introduce a more practical innovation to their
followers. We can see several applications to this technology like a device
with a gently curved display. A bendable phone that can fit in your wallet or
even a bendable tablet that can be folded into a more convenient size – so it
won’t take so much space in your bag.
Recently, Samsung has presented its
flexible OLED display and claimed that their current display technology far
more advanced than their counterparts. Basically, they are not using glass for
their display; they utilized a certain type of plastic which they called polyamide
– making their device unbreakable!
These types of devices will certainly be very lightweight, thin, rugged and unbreakable. The qualities are indeed very attractive for most iOS device consumers, and it may mean more profits for the company who can produce the most reliable flexible device on the market. But for now, we cannot really predict the final outcome for this particular technology. I just hope it’s really ground-breaking that it may forever change the way we use our mobile devices.
