A Hyper-Car From The Future

When you think of super cars, the first five words that would come to your mind are power, speed, V12 engine and overwhelming price tag. To tell you the truth, only a handful of the rich and famous can afford these extraordinary machines. Actually, there are several known manufacturers for high performance cars in the world, but if you hear the name Lamborghini – you immediately come to a conclusion - the arch-rival of Ferrari. Both of these super car giants are Italian and they have created cars that were supposed to be driven in the future but have arrived today.

Automobili Lamborghini was founded in 1963 and chose to put their assembly plant at Sant’Agata Bolgnese, a small rural town at the north-eastern part of Italy. It is there where they manufacture the newest bad boy for their line-up. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is a two-seater, two-door super sports car that was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2011. It is meant to replace its ten-year-old predecessor the Murciélago, and become the flagship model that would take the sports car market by storm.

Automobili Lamborghini claimed that their Aventador is two generation ahead when it comes to technology and design. When you see an Aventador, you see a hyper-car that was supposed to come out on 2020. However, due to consistent research and development, it is now possible to enjoy this sports car today – giving our generation a chance to see this new super car technology in action. 

The price tag for the new Aventador is at $ 387,000, which is not as high as the Bugatti Veyron but still too steep for most common high performance cars on the market. Despite its cost, the waiting list for this car is 12 months – that’s how popular this cool machine is within the millionaire’s circle. The demand for this super car is at all-time high, not to mention that a lot of rich personalities in the Middle East want one for their garage.

The body of this car is crafted with one thing in mind - improve its aerodynamic capabilities. It measures at 4.78 meters long, 1.136 meters high and 2.26 meters wide. It also has a front spoiler that is placed at the rear diffuser, and can be controlled electronically. One of the great things I noticed with the Aventador P700-4 is its four degree approach angle; it is quite unusual for most high performance cars on the road. However, this is done to greatly increase its stability at high speeds. It also has an 11 degree tilt that delivers greater downforce that optimize handling at mid-range speeds.

Also, the most unique feature it has is the components they used in creating the frame. They crafted this bad boy’s body using an ultra-modern carbon-fiber reinforced plastic monocoque. The same material we see in modern jet planes. So, it is very light and strong and encloses a safe capsule for the driver, as well as increasing its handling during high speeds.

So now we come to the heart and soul of this super car – its V12 engine. Basically, it has a 6.5-liter V-12 engine that is capable of pumping out an amazing 700 horsepower with a 509 pound-feet of torque. Now that can blow most of its competitors – except for one rival – and that’s the Bugatti Veyron. However, the Veyron is priced at 1,700,000 dollars and it uses 2 V12 engines, giving it a greater advantage. But still, the Aventador fared well with one of their test races by a small margin. 

On a final note, Lamborghini has come a long way with their new ace on the super car market. The designs they introduced on the table is one of the most eye candy for most super car enthusiasts. The Aventador is also the most sought-after luxury car today, no wonder they increased their production to 600 units a year.
